2001 Vina Ardanza Reserva Especial La Rioja Alta

As the label says, the Vina Ardanza was worthy of being called a Reserva Especial only three times since its inception: in 1964, 1973 and 2001. Naturally this raises the bar as expectations grow bigger.

2001 La Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza Reserva Especial

Red garnet color with light signs of brick color on the rim. Well developed nose, with initial oaky aromas upon opening, but as the wine breathes, it reveals classic old style Rioja character and leaves room for very nice aromas of sweet red fruits, cloves and cinnamon, orange peel, earth and eucalyptus. Medium to full body, the wine has bright acidity and shows a supple character on the palate. It is already drinking very well and easily pleases the Old style Rioja lovers by being weightless, smooth and elegant. Medium finish with very good menthol like freshness and spicy red fruits. This can still improve and develop more. (89/100)

Thanks for the tip. Will be dipping into the Rioja stock in my seller at the weekend. Nice to be reminded. All the best!
