I had dinner last week at Crowne Plaza in Bucharest to celebrate a special event in the family and I was able to bring my own bottle. Crowne Plaza has a beautiful refurbished restaurant with great food and a nice terrace. If you decide to visit follow my advice and order a la carte. The food looks better and is tastier than the alternative buffet they usually serve.
Predominantly grapes from the 2006 vintage(73%) and the rest, wines from other vintages. This Champagne is a blend of 54% Chardonnay, 26% Pinot Meunier and 20% Pinot Noir. The grapes come from vines situated in Grand Cru and Premier cru parcels from Grand Vallee de la Marne and from Cote des Blancs. The dosage is 3.5 gr/l and it was disgorged on Q4 2010.
A pale medium yellow lemon color with intense small bubbles. The nose is fresh, intense citric aromas mixed with yellow apple, dough, biscuit and citrus peel. Very focused on the palate, with razor sharp acidity, a bit too aggressive I would say, with citric flavors, chalk and a light grapefruit – lemon peel bitterness in the medium aftertaste. (89/100)
The wine paired very well with the cheese platter, especially with Gorgonzola(that was a great surprise for me). It also opened and tasted better after 30 minutes of aeration in the bottle.
