Secreto – a new private wine club
I received an invitation to attend the launching of a new private club called “Wine club Secreto” established by a former shareholder of Heritage restaurant in Bucharest. The club is established in a nice villa near Piata Unirii and the attendance will be made only based on prior reservation. The place is intended for private events, parties or training programs and can accommodate simultaneously two small parties, isolated one from another, or a bigger one. They have a very nice cellar style room on the basement that can easily be used for wine tasting events.
The launching event brought together many important people from different domains that had the chance to try wines, chocolate and admire art. An art gallery had paintings exposed on the walls available for sale and there was also a corner with different Belgium chocolate products. The club imports wines from Chile(Viu Manent) and collaborates with other importers.
There were about 20-25 unpretentious wines available for tasting at the event, wines from Portugal(vinho verde), Italy, Romania(sparkling wines from Cramele Halewood) and France (wines from Bordeaux- Graves, Entre deux mers and Saint Emillion- brought directly from the producers).
The Viu Manent Noble Semillion Botrytis Selection 2008 shows honey and ginger on the nose and a mineral aroma. In the mouth the wine is unctuous with a nice acidity showing honey, dried apricots and almonds. There is a medium plus finish on this sweet white wine. Very good wine.
There was also a wine tasting of three Austrian wines presented by the producer himself: Mr Ernst Zimmerl, working on the Agricultural Department for the Austrian Embassy in Bucharest. Mr Zimmler presented a Gruner Veltliner, a Riesling and a Chardonnay, all dry white wines. The Chardonnay was the best of the three.
Great initiative to introduce and educate people on different wines. The wine club has adopted a wine range produced by the same Chilean Viu Manent producer as a flagship named as the club – Secreto, a range of wines made with grapes from young vineyards.
